The Resort: Casa Colonial Beach & Spa
Beach at Casa Colonial
The hotel is directly on the beach where they have lounge chairs and umbrellas set up for guests. It is in a gated community with other resorts nearby but felt perfectly isolated. The absolutely gorgeous beach was never crowded only had the occasional person walking by. There were vendors walking the beach selling items. They were friendly and polite. If you say, “No, thanks.” They keep walking. Don’t be rude to them! My only critique of this beach was how windy it was! Sometimes I left early because the wind was too much.
Breakfast
We were lucky enough to get breakfast included. Oh. SWEET. FOOD. GODS. Do not miss their breakfast. It is on their veranda which is surrounded by trees, sands and sounds of the waves. The food is absolutely insane. The Dominican breakfast, in particular, was outstanding with its fried salami and cheese. That cheese was stupid good. Regardless of what I ordered, I always got a side of cheese and salami. It was that tasty. They also brought lots of bread, freshly squeezed juice and specialty coffees. The eggs, sweet breakfast items, really everything was one of the highlights of the trip. We would eat so much that we rarely needed lunch. OMG, I forgot about their mofongo which they served as a side for breakfast. It was always included with the Dominican breakfast. Also, coffee was fantastic.
Dinner at Lucia
This is a special place to get dinner. It is this Caribbean French fusion which I, obviously, loved. The chocolate goat dish or fish of the day was fantastic! Everything about this place was amazing. From the beautiful furnishings to huge windows to impeccable food and fun cocktails. It was the best food we ate. I will warn you; it is expensive. We didn’t eat there every night because of the price. Also, we wanted to break it up a bit.
Rooftop Pool and Lunch
If you didn’t feel like sitting by the beach, then head to the rooftop pool to enjoy the views, pools, hot tubs and comfy lounge chairs. The rooftop pool is also where you can get lunch. Lunch was pretty good but a bit expensive. We usually had a large breakfast to avoid spending too much on lunch. The rooftop pool area was lovely but a bit loud. Some groups would play their own music which was annoying.
Lush Gardens and Cocktails
Need a break from the water? Enjoy the walk around the resort. The walkways are filled with lush greens and vegetation. It always smelled amazing. They would put incense out at night to keep bugs away. I loved walking around, it was so peaceful. In the late afternoon, the husband and I would sit in the garden by the main building with cocktails. I swear they make the best caipirinhas. All of their cocktails were fresh and delicious.
The Rooms, Lobby and Exterior
The drive up to the hotel definitely drew an, “Oh wow” from us both. It is beautiful. The lobby is STUNNING. I loved having cocktails before dinner there. The rooms were spotless and attractive. I loved the patio area, fresh daily fruit and the shower. The beds were super comfortable. Everything was lovely.
Service
Wonderful service from the moment you are picked up at the airport to the moment they drop you off. (Which I highly recommend! It was nice not having to worry about how to get to the hotel. Price wasn’t terrible.)Bartenders in particular were friendly, engaging and talented. They were some of our favorite people at the resort.
Tip! If you want to visit the small shopping plaza or visit other resorts, Casa Colonial has golf carts and they will drop you off. At the restaurants you tell someone when you are done and Casa Colonial come and pick you up.

- Trattoria- Located in the small shopping mall next to the resort. Decent pizza.
- Green Jack Restaurant– Food and drinks were decent. Nice to go see another resort.
